Keeping your Computer Clean

Wing Tips

The new surf bar images we recently uploaded reminded me of how important it is to keep one’s computer cached and temporary internet files clean and removed often.

Whether we like it or not, the computer is our most important tool when working online, yet we have a tendency to not take the best care. In order to increase speed and performance it is imperative we do.

Let me just say upfront I am not a techie type person that completely understands everything needed for good PC health, but I do want to share a couple of things I do on a daily basis to keep mine running smoothly and quicker.

Of course this is especially important when using traffic exchanges. We hate hesitation, slow running computers, we do a lot of surfing and expect things to happen quickly.

Your computer has many settings and tools in your accessories programs, but if you’re like me, remembering to use some of those tools are just too much to remember. We have more important things to do. :)

Personally I use and recommend the FireFox browser. Mainly because I am accustomed to it, and to me it seems easier to use. I like simple and easy. I have my FireFox browser set to clear cached files, cookies, and temp files every time I close it. Pretty easy to do. See illustration below. Find this by clicking “Tools” in your FF browser, then “Options”. Then click the “Privacy” tab and this is what you see.

As you can see there are several different settings you are allowed to change. The one I like the most is near the bottom, under the Private Data heading. Click settings, choose your preferences, and be sure to tick the “Always clear my private data when I close Firefox”. Based on your settings, each time you close your browser, they are done automatically. :)

Important thing is choose your settings wisely based on what you want to happen.

That is a quick easy thing you should consider. It is still necessary to delete unnecessary files no longer needed to help your computer run more efficiently. If you want a cool little tool to do most of this for you, try www.ccleaner.com It is free to download, you will note a link to make a donation if you wish to do so. Works pretty good. Just run it after each surf session, you’ll notice the difference.

Of course it’s very important to have a good anti-virus software program, and good idea even if you think it is keeping things clean, to run a complete scan of your PC occasionally.

There a lot of really cool tools and addon’s if you use Firefox. Sunny Suggs probably has the most comprehensive training, tips and ideas about using Firefox on her All About Addons site. Yes, she uses images and arrows too explain things, so if interested you might want to download the fun pdf’s she provides.

Hope this helps, happy surfing!
:)
